Hey everyone hopefully I have a quick one for you. My VCM II seems to have taken a dump and I have an appointment Tuesday to program a Ford and I was thinking I could just use a jbox to get me through. Does an IDS License give you access to FJDS or do I need to grab one for the FDRS/FJDS. Sorry if this an easy one it just wasn't very clear to me on the motorcraft websites
From the main page, select “Register Today”. Once registered, a technician can then purchase a subscription to download the software necessary to program electronic modules to the latest calibration level, perform module initialization (PATS), and set programmable parameters on Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.
+1
IDS will support Bosch pass tru . What j box are you planning to use ?
I don't know how old your vcm is but my mazda vcm went down (For the second time) and they got one to me next day with there express program. You may want to try the hard reset on yours first by holding in the small red tab under the rubber boot on the bottem then let it do a hardware update.
I have a cardaq m. But i might be able to get my hands on a bosch if it comes to that. I might just suck it up and get another 2 day License to be sure. Thanks for the info
There are plenty of Bosch MVCI units out there. They are Green and look like the VCMII / MDI They have the electronics to support the IDS software but I am unaware of any drivers released to make it work. If anyone has them I would be very interested. The Autoland Scientech IScanII wt has an emulator that will work for Ford or Mazda. There is also the Allscanner. The IDS software is not locked
Michael, although not specific to IDS software, I saw the MVCI is compatible with Ford's FJDS s/w. See: motorcraftservice.com/diagnostic/FJD… . There's a URL, maybe that might help (I don't know).HTH
You need a FJDS license for programming
Your IDs license entitles you to use FJDS without having to purchase anything additionally.
And, yes, I do repair those tools as well. Please let me know if you need me to look at it. No charge for evaluation.
Thanks for the Info and the offer. If I can't get it going I will shoot you an email. Not to be off topic but do you sell parts or know where to find parts for tech 2's? Just little stuff i'd hate to bother you about but I thought Id ask.
Joseph, you wrote 'do you sell parts or know where to find parts for tech 2's?'. Yes, I sell parts and yes, I know where to find parts for them (lol). I also have a pretty good reputation for repairing them (when searched on iATN).Blast me a PM, I'll discuss your needs privately.
I tried to use an IDS license on FJDS the other day and it would not validate the license. You may be able to call rotunda to get it to work, but as of yesterday my regular IDS license would not let FJDS work, Has anyone validated that IDS licenses will work for FJDS?
My experience has been that IDS and FJDS licenses are completely separate. However, IDS and FDRS licenses are together. So if you have an IDS license, you use that same one for the FDRS application. If I’m repeating someone else, I apologize for the redundancy.
IDS licenses are listed separate in my helm account. the IDS licesnses do not work on FJDS
Also, the software must be current on your computer for the VCM to communicate.
With a pass-thru you will have programming access from 96-up applicable vehicles using the FJDS application. If you’re needing diagnostic abilities, the FJDS/FDRS with a pass thru only function on 2018-up vehicles What year/model/module is the vehicle you will be programming?
Ford J2534 Reprogramming
Surprisingly enough there is a limited amount of diagnostic availability in FJDS for pre-can vehicles. I have seen Power Balance and relative compression on some late 90's vehicles. The coverage is incomplete but some is better than nothing.

If ypu’ve got some screenshots of such coverage in FJDS I’d like to eee it. I have yet to find any diagnostic functions as you’ve mentioned within FJDS, formerly FMP. I hope there’s something I’ve missed
Hi Daryl,Complete capabilities of FJDS can be found at motorcraftservice.com/diagnostic/FJD… .
Ford Fjds License
The capabilities listed do not mention the toolbox functions for pre can vehicles. There are additional functions that can be useful such as self tests and data monitor for some systems. But the coverage is not consistent.
These are some shots of the menu selections from a 1996 ranger, I will follow up with the next pre can vehicle I have a chance to capture some from. Coverage is hit or miss.
Awesome to know! Thank you for that. While we’re here, do you know if FJDS includes the CEI function in Body? 2015 F-150 for example. It’s part of the BCM replacement procedure. Used IDS for it before, haven’t tried with FJDS
No it does not.
The screen captures below are from the airbag data monitor on a 1999 F150 The Drivetrain selection in this version (111.01) of FJDS has been omitted. I had previously been able to see power balance on this era F150 on an earlier version of FJDS
This shot was one of the drivability menus in this 5.4L 01 F150

Chris, I'm not surprised that it 'has holes' in diagnostic coverage of FJDS on pre-2018 vehicles. I am surprised it has any actually, after reading on the site I linked:'FJDS software provides module reprogramming software (FMP) that covers 1996 to present Ford, Lincoln, Mercury module reprogramming functions, plus complete dealership level vehicle diagnostic software for all 2018 to present
